Beef Stew then Beef Curry Gotta love Cooking on a budget

Beef Shank, not a cut I would normally buy. David saw the Beef Shanks and he loves a deal. How to Cook Beef Shank Steak. … They’re too tough for grilling, but like chuck steaks, they’re ideal for braising. The long, slow cooking process softens the tough muscle fibers and connective tissues, leaving the meat fork-tender with a luscious texture. I added 2 medium onions, 3 large carrots, marinated the shanks in garlic, salt and fresh ground black pepper.. I added more minced garlic and braised the veggies , then added the whole Beef Shanks added 900 mis beef stock and the All in one pot was set for 4.5 hrs .. Once done I took out the 4 beef shanks and diced them, then added them back to the veggie mix and I made mash potatoes, this was one of the tastiest stews I have ever had.. There was Ian our son, David and I for Supper Sunday. When putting the leftover stew in the fridge David said “ you have to make a curry from the left overs..

  • 4 beef shanks $12
  • 2 onions $1
  • 3 large carrots $1
  • Beef Stock $1;27
  • tbl spoon minced garlic $1
  • Salt and pepper
  • Left over Beef Stew
  • 1 large onion cut in to chunks ’
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 1 tbl spn curry paste
  • 1 tbl spn curry powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • Fresh ground black pepper test minced garlic
  • 4 large potatoes, cut in to fries ( Chips ) Serve curry over fries
  • left over home made Naan Bread

2 meals out of the Beef Shanks and Veggies , 2 recipes 8 servings and a lunch for David Im gonna say both for under $25 tasty , delicious and still #plant based

What is a Tomato?

Tomato is technically considered a fruit but is generally lumped into the category of vegetables as a practice. Tomatoes form an integral part of cuisines across the globe, especially in the Mediterranean region. Daily consumption of tomatoes provides a great boost to health, along with improving the flavor of food. You can find them in different foods like pasta, pizzas, ketchup, and various beverages. They are relatively easy to cultivate and grow very quickly, making them a great food source, which is a big reason why tomatoes are a staple food for many nations.

A little info i found on line. The scientific name of tomatoes is Solanum Lycopersicum, and they are believed to be native to Mexico. However, the Spanish colonization of America and Central America caused tomato cultivation to spread. They are an annual nightshade plant and grow in clusters of small to moderately sized, round red fruits. They have soft, pinkish-red flesh and a number of seeds, as well as a slightly sweet taste. They weigh approximately 4 ounces.

The health benefits of tomatoes are many and include eye care, good stomach health, and reduced blood pressure. They may provide relief from skin problems, and urinary tract infections, and may reduce the risk of diabetes, too. Furthermore, they improve digestion, stimulate blood circulation, reduce cholesterol levels, improve fluid balance, protect the kidneys, and reduce inflammation. Tomatoes consist of a large number of antioxidants may help fight different types of cancer. They are also a rich source of vitamins and minerals and exert a protective effect against cardiovascular diseases.

Plant based diet info , I was reading on line and thought that you may find this interesgting !!!

Nevertheless, health and wellness communities agree that diets emphasizing fresh, whole ingredients and minimizing processed foods are superior for overall wellness.

The whole-foods, plant-based diet does just that.

It focuses on minimally processed foods, specifically plants, and is effective at stimulating weight loss and improving health.

This article reviews everything you need to know about the whole-foods, plant-based diet, including its potential health benefits, foods to eat and a sample meal plan.

What Is a Whole-Foods, Plant-Based Diet?

There is no clear definition of a what constitutes a whole-foods, plant-based diet (WFPB diet). The WFPB diet is not necessarily a set diet — it’s more of a lifestyle.

This is because plant-based diets can vary greatly depending on the extent to which a person includes animal products in their diet.

Nonetheless, the basic principles of a whole-foods, plant-based diet are as follows:

  • Emphasizes whole, minimally processed foods.
  • Limits or avoids animal products.
  • Focuses on plants, including vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, seeds and nuts, which should make up the majority of what you eat.
  • Excludes refined foods, like added sugars, white flour and processed oils.
  • Pays special attention to food quality, with many proponents of the WFPB diet promoting locally sourced, organic food whenever possible.

For these reasons, this diet is often confused with vegan or vegetarian diets. Yet although similar in some ways, these diets are not the same.

People who follow vegan diets abstain from consuming any animal products, including dairy, meat, poultry, seafood, eggs and honey. Vegetarians exclude all meat and poultry from their diets, but some vegetarians eat eggs, seafood or dairy.

While one person following plant based diet may eat no animal products, another may eat small amounts of eggs, poultry, seafood, meat or dairy.

Summary The whole-foods, plant-based diet emphasizes plant-based foods while minimizing animal products and processed items.

The Superfood Qualities of Mushrooms

The benefits of fungi are still largely unknown—but researchers keep turning up surprising ways they boost human health.

This story appears in the March 2018 issue of National Geographicmagazine.

Mushrooms are everywhere — on forest floors, in gardens, in networks connecting below our feet. The largest organism on Earth is actually a honey mushroom, an underground web that covers more than 3.7 square miles in Oregon’s Blue Mountains.

Yet mushrooms are poorly understood, and the field of medicinal mushrooms is still in its infancy. Fungi used to be overlooked as a low-calorie, low-nutrition food, but in fact many are full of nutrients. According to biochemist and herbalist Martin Powell, many produce compounds that show potential for improving treatment results for those suffering from ailments such as cancer and dementia.
